About HVV

Background
High Voltage Valley was formed in late 2005 and the initiator was the regional development company AB Samarkand2015 in cooperation with ABB, STRI, KTH, Uppsala University and Chalmers. The activities focused on establishing a research valley in Ludvika. This to ensure the region's global leadership in electric power engineering.

Current status
Since 2009, both the organization around, and the focus of activity, developed for High Voltage Valley to in a more powerful way contribute to regional development and growth. This has meant that more companies and players involved in High Voltage Valley.

HVV is a cluster initiative1 where academia, large and small companies and public actors cooperate in various areas that are important to secure and further develop the region's global leadership in electric power engineering. Specifically, cooperation on research projects, development of innovations and new companies, development of existing suppliers to the electric power industry and to ensure the industry's need for succession planning. Thus, the business has evolved from research to also include other areas that are important for creating innovation and economic growth.
